What Are Pharaoh Ants?

Pharaoh ants are something that you should be aware of if you own a home or you have a business. These are pests that you will want to keep an eye out for. Why are they such a nuisance? These ants will build their nests in walls, behind the baseboard, inside refrigerator insulation, inside curtain rods, within clothing and sheets, and in other dark spaces. What’s more, though, is that they have the ability to spread more than 12 infectious organisms from place to place, making them a serious problem no matter where they’re hiding.

Where to Find Them

Pharaoh ants don’t want to be cold, so they will move into buildings in the winter where they are able to find artificial heat. One of the most common places that pharaoh ants invade are in food service areas. They love to eat many types of foods, but their favorite foods are sweet foods. They have also been known to eat other insects.

Reproduction Habits

From egg to adult, it only takes about 38 days. The female pharaoh ants live between 4 and 12 months at the longest. The worker pharaoh ants live only about 10 weeks.
