Termites – The Silent Destroyer

Discovering Termites
Most people don’t know the signs are of a termite infestation. This can make discovering one very difficult. Likewise, even if you do know what the signs are, but have no idea where to look for them, you still may not ever find any termites. Luckily, the case may very well be that you don’t have termites at all, which is excellent news for you because they can do a lot of damage to a home if given the chance.

Most homes are given a thorough inspection before they are purchasedBut what if you’ve been living in your home for a long time? Even a few years is plenty of time to give termites a chance to discover they like what they see and state moving in.mud tubing, Ransford Pest Control

Signs of Termites

There are different things that can alert you to the presence of termites. Mud tubing around wood is a huge sign of termites. However, you’re not likely to see this in a very open space. It can occur underneath decks,
near the foundation of homes, and in places that aren’t very accessible to humans. If you notice a lot of swarminginsects near your home around spring and autumn, then that is also a sign there may be termites in your home. This can be difficult to determine, though, as sometimes people will confuse swarming termites with swarming ants. (But if the swarm turns out to be ants, then that also may very well be worth looking into!)

Spotting a termite is rare, but it can happen. And chances are that if you see one termite, there are many more where that one came from. Termite colonies can be huge when allowed to spread. If you knock on a piece of wood and it sounds hollow, then there may be a problem. Cracked or otherwise distorted paint on wood surfaces may be an indicator of termites.

Clearing Termites Out
